Rohi Machcha Patropoda Recipe

Rohi Machcha Patropoda is a fish marinated in masala, wrapped in banana leaf, then fried till soft and flaky for a few minutes. It's a kind of oil-free healthy recipe that goes well with hot steamed rice.

Ingredients for Rohi Machcha Patropoda

  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1 tsp garlic
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2-3 whole dry red chilies 
  • 1 Whole fish
  • 2 tsp masala
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp green chilies, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 7 curry leaves 
  • coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp mustard oil

How to Make Rohi Machcha Patropoda

  • Grinde the ginger, garlic, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and entire red chilies in a blender.
  • Cut the fish into little pieces after cleaning it.
  • Mix thoroughly with the prepared masala, salt, green chilies, turmeric, curry leaves, coriander leaves, onions, and mustard oil. Allow this to marinate for a while.
  • Wrap a banana leaf around the marinated fish and secure it with a thread.
  • Place the sealed banana on a lump of coal for 15-25 minutes.
  • At 15 minutes intervals turn the leaf to the other side and cook it again for more than 10 minutes. Switch off the flame and serve hot with rice.
