He is currently ranked world number one in para-badminton men's singles SL3, and won a gold medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Men's singles SL3. Pramod first came into the limelight in 2013 when he won a gold medal at the World Championships in Men’s doubles category held in Dortmund, Germany.

Pramod was born into a family of farmers in Hajipur village of Vaishali district in Bihar. Pramod was fond of playing various sports since childhood, but at the age of 5 years, he got affected by polio which developed a defect on his left leg causing a permanent disability. However, Pramod did not let his disability come in his way and he kept practicing and playing various sports. Pramod Bhagat has won more than 46 medals internationally.
2021 Tokyo Paralympics: Pramod Bhagat wins gold medal in badminton. He defeated Great Britain's Daniel Bethell in the men's singles final match, bagging two straight sets with the score of 21-14, 21-17.
Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Pramod Bhagat, who became the first badminton player from India to win a gold medal at the Paralympic Games. Pramod thanked the Chief Minister for his continuous support for the development of sports in the state.
