Prawn Potato Curry (Chungudi Aloo Tarakari) Odia Cooking Recipe

Prawn recipes are pretty tasty and lots of people are like as well. There are several prawn masala recipes. This is our version cooked with potatoes that are based on the Eastern Indian (Odisha) style of cooking. It is easy to make, and all ingredients are available in a small market as well.

Prawn Potato Curry (Chungudi Aloo Tarakari) Odia Cooking Recipe

Ingredients for making Prawn Potato Curry:


  • Prawns: 500gm medium size
  • Potato: 2 medium sizes boiled and cut into small cube sizes
  • Onions: 2 medium sizes and should be fully grind
  • Ginger Garlic paste: 1 and 1/2 tsp
  • Tomatoes: 1medium size chopped
  • Turmeric powder:1 tsp
  • Coriander powder: 1 tsp
  • Water: 1cup
  • Red Chilli Powder: 2tsp
  • Refined/Cooking Oil
  • Salt as per the taste
  • Coriander leaves only for garnishing


Procedure to make Prawn Potato Curry:

  1. At first, clean the prawns and marinate it with salt and turmeric powder for 10-15 mins
  2. Then heat the cooking oil on a non-stick pan and fry that marinated prawns for 5-10 mins till its looks red/brown and keep aside in a pot
  3. Then in the same pan fry that boiled potato cubes till light brown and keep aside in another pot
  4. Then take some cooking oil in the pan and add onion paste and fry it for 4-5 mins.
  5. Then add ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, chili powder, Garam Masala powder and fry for 4-5 mins on the medium heat.
  6. Then add chopped tomatoes, salt into it and fry it till oil separates from the masala.
  7. Then add fried prawn, potatoes and fry it for 2-3 mins. 
  8. Then add some water and mix properly.
  9. Put a cover on the pan and cook on medium heat for 10-12 mins.
  10. Now garnish it with coriander leaves and serve with Rice/Roti.

Some Suggestion to make Prawn Potato Curry:


  • You can use any raw large prawns or shrimps.
  • If using frozen prawns, leave overnight in a fridge to defrost.
  • Ready garlic paste and ready ginger paste may be used to save time.
